PAKINGTON STREET

Geelong’s favourite “strip” shopping area has to be Pakington Street, or Pako as it is affectionately known to the locals. This cosmopolitan street runs approximately 3.4 km's from West Geelong in the north to the river end of Newtown in the south. The West Geelong section has an Italian flavour thanks to the Italian immigrants of the 1950’s, while the Newtown end retains the Edwardian and Victorian architecture and character of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Pakington Street boasts a diverse mix of traditional restaurants, Edwardian hotels, funky new cafes, designers fashion stores, upmarket gift shops, European and Australian delicatessens and cake shops, old world antique shops, great Italian style Pizza restaurants, hairdressers, florists, beauty therapists, homewares, craft, shoes and accessories. There’s plenty of free parking areas behind the main strip, so plan to stay the day, enjoy the great coffee shops and cafes and shop till you drop!
